About Oak Bed Frames

Oak Bed Frame Styles

  • Oak four-poster beds A bold architectural statement in solid oak, with tall posts and crossbeams that showcase the lumber’s distinctive grain and natural strength.

  • Oak low beds Minimalist solid oak bed frames built closer to the floor, allowing the weight and texture of the lumber to create a grounded, contemporary feel.

  • Oak standard-height beds The classic oak bed frame profile, offering practical under-bed clearance and a comfortable sitting height for everyday use.

  • Oak platform beds Clean-lined oak wood bed frames with rigid slatted bases, removing the need for a bulky box spring while highlighting the character of the grain.

  • Oak storage beds Solid oak bed frames with integrated drawers or hidden compartments, combining traditional hardwood construction with practical organization.

  • Oak attic beds Lower-profile oak bed frames engineered to fit beneath sloped ceilings and loft conversions without compromising mattress size.

  • Oak floating beds Crafted from solid oak with recessed supports, creating a subtle hovering effect while maintaining structural integrity.

  • Oak daybeds A versatile oak bed frame that works as refined seating by day and a practical guest bed by night.

  • Oak Japanese beds Ultra‑low solid oak bed frames inspired by Zen design, focusing on simplicity and the natural beauty of the wood.

  • Oak Scandinavian-style beds Light, pared-back oak beds that celebrate clean lines and the warmth of natural hardwood.

  • Oak reinforced beds Heavy-duty solid oak bed frames with strengthened rails and enhanced supports for added durability and stability.

  • Oak space-saver beds Slimline oak bed frames designed with reduced external dimensions, ideal for tighter bedrooms and alcoves.

  • Oak trundle beds A clever hardwood bed frame with a discreet pull‑out bed stored neatly beneath, perfect for hosting overnight guests without permanently sacrificing floor space.

Why We Love Our Solid Oak Beds

  • Naturally hard‑wearing – Solid oak is dense, durable, and resistant to everyday knocks. Its natural resistance to fungal decay and insect attack makes it one of the most reliable hardwoods available for long-term furniture that won't degrade or weaken over time.

  • Slow-grown oak for added stability – We carefully source our oak from colder regions of North America, where slower growth creates a tighter, more consistent grain. The result is a solid oak bed frame that is more stable and less prone to warping over time.

  • Built to age beautifully – Oak has been trusted in American homes for centuries for good reason, as a well-built solid oak bed frame can easily last between 60 and 100 years. It doesn’t just last—its rich patina and character develop over time.

  • Mortise and tenon joinery – Oak's natural density pairs perfectly with traditional mortise and tenon joints, creating frames that tighten over time rather than loosening, ensuring your bed stays solid and silent for decades.

  • Well-suited to American homes – Oak bedroom furniture handles the moisture and seasonal temperature changes often found in older US properties, making it an ideal choice for historic homes and traditional architecture.

Top Solid Oak Bed Tips From Our Craftsmen

  • Use felt pads on hard floors – Solid oak bed frames weigh about twice as much as a solid pine alternative, which adds more stability. We recommend placing protective pads under oak beds in particular to help prevent this additional weight from marking wooden or tiled floors.

  • Expect it to naturally darken over time – Oak develops a deeper, warmer tone as it’s exposed to light. This is completely normal and part of the character that makes a solid oak bed age beautifully.

  • Avoid placing near direct heat sources  - Try to keep your solid oak bed frame at least 12 inches away from radiators, underfloor heating vents, or fireplaces. Prolonged exposure to direct heat can dry out the lumber and cause minor cracking over time.

  • Lift with two people Oak is dense and weighty. If you move your bed, always lift with two people to avoid strain on the joints and to protect both the frame and your flooring. Dragging it can also damage your flooring.

  • Clean with a dry cloth monthly Oak is low-maintenance, but regular dusting prevents build-up. Avoid spray polishes or excessive moisture—a soft, dry cloth is all you need to keep the grain looking rich.

FAQs

What's the difference between solid oak and oak veneer?

Solid oak is cut from a single piece of lumber and maintains its strength, grain, and appearance throughout the full depth of the wood. Oak veneer uses a thin layer of real oak bonded to cheaper composite materials like MDF or chipboard, which can chip, peel, or delaminate over time. All our oak bed frames are made from 100% solid oak—no veneers, no composites.

Do I need a new mattress when getting a new oak bed frame?

Not necessarily; our solid oak bed frames are made to fit standard US mattress dimensions. As long as your current mattress is supportive, comfortable, and free from sagging, it will perform optimally on our bases.

How much weight can a solid wooden bed support?

An oak bed frame can support up to over 1,000 pounds (471 kg). This capacity is due to extra-thick solid oak slats (which are double the industry standard) and its handcrafted construction, which provide significantly more strength than standard mass-market alternatives.

Should I choose a light oak or dark oak finish?

It depends on your room's natural light. Light oak finishes work best in darker or north-facing bedrooms, where they reflect light and keep the space feeling open. Dark oak finishes show their depth and richness in well-lit rooms, where the grain and tone can be fully appreciated. Both age beautifully over time.

Whatever you’re looking for, our solid oak bed frames are sure to stun. This finish gives a beautiful country style to any bed, regardless of size or style. Our oak beds are incredibly durable thanks to the wooden slats we use, which are twice as thick as standard. This, combined with our expert craftsmen’s skills, makes our beds both sturdy and stylish.

What Kind of Oak Wooden Bed Frames are Available?

Our oak wood beds are available as any size that we offer and more, thanks to our fully customizable and made to measure services. From twin size beds to the super emperor bed frames and everything in between, we’ve got the right oak bed for you.

Some of our most popular oak bed frame choices include:

Twin size oak beds: Explore our wide selection of handcrafted twin oak wood bed frames. Made sustainably from 100% solid wood.

Full size oak beds: Our full size oak bed frames are made from 100% solid wood, these majestic and oh-so-comfortable beds are sure to impress.

Queen size oak beds: Handcrafted from 100% solid wood, our oak queen beds come in a range of styles and designs to suit your personal preferences.

King size oak beds: A royal choice for large and luxurious bedrooms, our king oak wood bed frames come in a variety of styles to suit your tastes and interiors.

You can also choose from any one of our available styles. An oak platform bed frame creates a stunning feature in any room, due to its modern appearance and minimal design. An oak canopy bed will add an extra level of grand design to any master bedroom. The oak finish makes them even more classic.

Why Choose an Oak Bed Frame?

Oak is a hardwood that is known for its strength and durability. Oak bed frames can withstand regular use and are less likely to break or warp over time. Our oak bed frames have been tested and can hold up to 10455 pounds in weight. The slats we use to make our oak bed frames are 2x thicker and wider than the industry standard, encompassing about 70% of the base which means an oak bed frame from us is extremely strong and durable.

We believe in giving back and being environmentally responsible here at Get Laid Beds. That’s why an oak bed frame from us is sustainably sourced and made from 100% solid wood. We’re confident in the services and products we provide, so each of our beds, including the oak bed frames, come with an 11-year guarantee. For more information or to start designing your own dream oak bed, just contact us today.
